New opportunity with Oldham College
Oldham college are looking for a number of different volunteers who can deliver employability workshops as part of their work skills programme for students.
You would be asked to develop and deliver a one hour workshop around what to expect from employment and the application process.
These are the topics that the students will cover in their qualifications:
The 4 Directorates are Creative Industries (The arts, media + Hair and beauty), Enterprise and New technologies (Computing, Business, and Construction& Environmental technologies), Care Leisure and professional services (Care, early years, Profession/Financial, Sport and Travel), Foundation Learning and entitlement.
You would be asked to develop and deliver a one hour workshop around what to expect from employment and the application process.
These are the topics that the students will cover in their qualifications:
- Team working and effectively with other people
- Self assessment / appraisal
- Employment rights and responsibilities
- CV building / development of covering letters
- Interview skills
- Managing money
- To increase student knowledge on employability attrubutes / skills
- Raising aspirations of students at The Oldham College for the FE students aged 16 - 19
- Providing information on workplace etiquette

He is part of a management traineeship at Oldham Council which involves spending time across a number of different directorates supporting various projects and initiatives. This has involved writing policies, bid writing, report writing and delivering presentations.
He possesses a range of skills including good communications skills, written and verbal. He has excellent policy and strategy writing and is also good at influencing and negotiating.
He has previously worked as a secondary school science teacher and has experience of planning lessons, creating resources and materials for different audiences.
Through the ESV scheme, he would like to gain a closer understanding of Oldham and its communities.
He would particularly be interested in supporting an organisation to implement change and make improvements with the view to support them to become more resilient and flexible to improve outcome for Oldham residents.

Support to set up a telephone befriending service in the community of Derker, Watersheddings and Moorside.
To mentor and support the centre manager to set up a new telephone befriending scheme, this will involve, consulting the local community and establishing the need for a telephone befriending scheme within the community. Support to put together a project plan with a timeline and budget. Develop marketing strategy to promote the new service. Support to look at the practical elements of the project, i.e staffing and resources.
Project management, experience of community consultations and research. Experience of setting up a community project is desirable. This is an opportunity to develop your mentoring skills and to gain a better understanding of services available for older people in Oldham
Santos Football club
Support to develop a business plan
Organise and facilitate a series of planning meetings. Create an agenda for the meetings to determine organisations current state, develop a 3 to 5 year plan and support to develop a detailed action plan of how to achieve set objectives.

To bring together research and information already gathered to help write a business plan. To identify any gaps in the research and assess further research that needs undertaking.To share skills and expertise when putting a business plan together

To deliver a workshop to ADS service users (individuals who are recovering alcoholics / drug addicts) on a 'a day in the life of a council employee..' The aim of the opportunity is to promote the world of work by talking about what skills are needed for your role, how you found paid employment, your future aspirations and the benefits of working besides being paid.
You will need to be able to deliver a presentation to a group of people. Support will be provided to prepare your presentation. This is an opportunity to develop or refresh your presentation and workshop facilitation skills. This is also an opportunity to think about the value of your own job and identify the skills you possess for this role. You will also increase your understanding of the services ADS delivers to residents in Oldham and the importance of confidentiality within an organisation such as ADS. It will also hopefully develop your awareness of drug and alcohol misuse

This is an opportunity to be creative and share your skills and knowledge to the local theatre. You will gain an insight into how Coliseum theatre runs on a day to day basis.
