Over the past month we have spent time with Voluntary, Community and Faith organisations, looking at how they can involve a council employee over a two day or 14 hour period. We have asked organisations to think beyond their normal volunteer opportunities and think about any extra specialist support they might need.
As a result we have compiled a range of different opportunities, take a look below...

Lees Community Association LCA
To mentor LCA management commitee to put together a business and financial plan to support the community asset transfer
To bring together research and information already gathered to help write a business plan. To identify any gaps in the research and assess further research that needs undertaking.To share skills and expertise when putting a business plan together
You will need experience of writing business plans, collating information and putting it into a coherant and persuasive manner that is acceptable to the corporate property board. This is an opportunity for you to develop your mentoring skills and to understand the work LCA provide in Lees.
Addiction Dependency Solutions, a leading charity delivering drug and alcohol services across the north of England
A day in the life of a council employee
To deliver a workshop to ADS service users (individuals who are recovering alcoholics / drug addicts) on a 'a day in the life of a council employee..' The aim of the opportunity is to promote the world of work by talking about what skills are needed for your role, how you found paid employment, your future aspirations and the benefits of working besides being paid.
You will need to be able to deliver a presentation to a group of people. Support will be provided to prepare your presentation. This is an opportunity to develop or refresh your presentation and workshop facilitation skills. This is also an opportunity to think about the value of your own job and identify the skills you possess for this role. You will also increase your understanding of the services ADS delivers to residents in Oldham and the importance of confidentiality within an organisation such as ADS. It will also hopefully develop your awareness of drug and alcohol misuse
Oldham Coliseum Theatre
To develop a strategy to promote the 'individual giving' scheme.
To develop methods for the Coliseum to promote individual giving.
This could be developing new ideas or amending existing schemes such as the “Friends”. This role would help the Coliseum to review, rebrand and if appropriate develop ways of gaining further support from people who want to support the Coliseum.
You will need experience of fundraising and designing ways to gain support from the local community.This is an opportunity to develop your mentoring and supportive skills. This is an opportunity to be creative and share your skills and knowledge to the local theatre. You will gain an insight into how Coliseum theatre runs on a day to day basis.
Oldham Coliseum Theatre
To support executive director and marketing manager to develop Coliseum's audience development strategy
This role is to work with the Executive Director and the Marketing Team to develop new ways which the Coliseum can improve external communications to the community of Oldham.
You will need knowledge and experience of developing marketing strategies that reach different communities in Oldham. This is an opportunity to develop your mentoring and supportive skills. This is an opportunity to be creative and share your skills and knowledge to the local theatre. You will gain an insight into how Coliseum theatre runs on a day to day basis.
Oldham Bereavement Service
Support to develop a business plan for a new service
To mentor the organisation to develop a new 'pre-grief' service, this will include looking at staffing structures, sourcing sustainable funding, assessing practical logisics of how the service will run.
You will need experience of business planning, applying for sustainable funding, experience of how to develop/grow an organisation. This is an opportunity for you to develop your mentoring skills and get an insight into the services Oldham Bereavement provide in Oldham.
